Polynesians settled New Zealand in 1250–1300 AD and developed a distinctive Māori culture, and Europeans first made contact in 1642 AD. The majority of New Zealand's population is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and non-Māori Polynesians.

Six teams were split by just six points on Tuesday night at Whiskey Bar, with three ties as well! Crazy amount of gray matter in the house! And questions about four Jamaican bobsledders were flying about all over the place!

Funniest team name went to Pull Up A Lawn Chair....I'll have my penis grill us up some burgers...

Don't know if there's a hidden meaning in that name, but either way he's a clever dick.

A tiebreaker was needed to find a winner on the evening, with two teams ending on 47 points.

the heavily favored Max Baer in 1935

Max Baer (February 11, 1909 – November 21, 1959) was an American boxer of the 1930s (one-time Heavyweight Champion of the World) as well as a professional wrestler and referee, and had an occasional role on film or television. He was the brother of twice World Champion boxing contender Buddy Baer and father of actor Max Baer, Jr. (best-known as Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies). Baer is rated #22 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time.

On June 13, 1935, one of the greatest upsets in boxing history transpired in Long Island City, New York, as Baer fought down-and-out boxer James J. Braddock in the so-called Cinderella Man bout. Baer hardly trained for the bout. Braddock, on the other hand, was training hard. "I'm training for a fight. Not a boxing contest or a clownin' contest or a dance." he said. "Whether it goes one round or three rounds or 10 rounds, it will be a fight and a fight all the way. When you've been through what I've had to face in the last two years, a Max Baer or a Bengal tiger looks like a house pet. He might come at me with a cannon and a blackjack and he would still be a picnic compared to what I've had to face." Baer, ever the showman "brought gales of laughter from the crowd with his antics" the night he stepped between the ropes to meet Braddock. As Braddock "slipped the blue bathrobe from his pink back, he was the sentimental favorite of a Bowl crowd of 30,000, most of whom had bet their money 8-to-1 against him."

Max "undoubtedly paid the penalty for underestimating his challenger beforehand and wasting too much time clowning." At the end of 15 rounds Braddock emerged the victor in a unanimous decision, outpointing Baer 8 rounds to 6 in the "most astounding upset since John L. Sullivan went down before the thrusts of Gentleman Jim Corbett back in the nineties". Braddock took heavy hits from Baer, but kept coming at Baer until he wore Max down.

There were some high scores and some great team names and some lovely pizza at Whiskey Bar this past Tuesday night.

An uncharacteristically poor score from I'd Rather Fall 75 Stories Than Get A 29 Again, but continuing with their usual funny name form.

The best team name did go to The More You Play With It The Bluer It Gets who scored 44 points and summed up the feeling of all the lads in the room...

There name was a play on a real slogan from SEGA...

Quizmaster can't make this stuff up! We'd like to be able to, but we're just not that funny.

Speaking of funny, perhaps the worst team name, but fortunately finishing second, was We're Very Funny who took home the $20 prize...

Winning on the evening was Popeyes Gun Show who snuck ahead of the pack with 46 points...

Next week Kevin will perform the quiz topless, revealing his two nipple rings to the avid queeps of Whiskey Bar.

Elevator attendant Betty Lou Oliver
plummeted 75 stories and lived!

Betty Lou Oliver (July 9, 1925 - March 8, 1994) is best known as the 1940s elevator attendant for the Empire State Building who survived two large accidents on the same day.

Oliver was working on the 80th story of the building on July 28, 1945. On that day, due to thick fog a B-25 Mitchell bomber crashed into the north side of the Empire State Building. The plane struck the 79th floor of the building. Oliver was thrown from her post and badly burned in the accident, though she survived, while 14 others did not.

When rescuers got to her they decided to lower her via the elevator, unaware that the cables had been weakened to breaking point. Once the elevator doors closed, the cables snapped and Oliver plummeted 75 stories to the basement. Oliver survived but again had to be rescued and was later treated at the hospital for serious injuries. The thousand feet of elevator cable had fallen to the bottom of the shaft, creating a softer landing surface. The rapid compression of the air also likely helped slow the elevator's fall. This descent still stands as the Guinness World Record for the longest survived elevator fall ever recorded. Five months later, Oliver returned with an elevator inspector, who complimented her "guts" in riding the elevators to the full height of the building on that visit.

A massive trivia night at Whiskey Bar had 10 teams fighting it out for the cash this Tuesday, and we even had David Gruber (one call, that's all!) in the house in case of any disputes on answers... or in case a quizzer had an accident in the bathroom and wanted to get their money!!

Newbie teams Fedora Flavor and Oscar The Grouch & Friends both scored well for a first go....While the Riddler Rub & Tug nearly won the funniest team name.

That prize did go to The LSU Team Bus Couldn't Get Out Of The Parking Lot This Morning, Someone Painted A 50yd Line In Front Of It...

Very good guys. $10 of Whiskey love for them!

We had a nail biting tie for first place between Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor...

...and Polyorchidism, Mother Natures Viagra who both finished with 42 points....

And following the sudden death question - In which year did Samuel Morse first successfully test the electrical telegraph? - the closest guess went to Viagra which means the Dicks settled for second ;-)

Lake Baikal (meaning "nature lake") is the world's oldest, at 30 million years, and deepest, averaging 744.4 metres.

Located in the south of the Russian region of Siberia, between Irkutsk Oblast to the northwest and the Buryat Republic to the southeast, it is the most voluminous freshwater lake in the world, containing roughly 20% of the world's unfrozen surface fresh water.

At 1,642 metres (5,387 ft), Lake Baikal is the deepest and among the clearest of all lakes in the world. Similar to Lake Tanganyika, Lake Baikal was formed as an ancient rift valley, having the typical long crescent shape with a surface area of 31,722 km² (12,248 sq mi), less than that of Lake Superior or Lake Victoria. Baikal is home to more than 1,700 species of plants and animals, two thirds of which can be found nowhere else in the world and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. It is also home to Buryat tribes who reside on the eastern side of Lake Baikal, rearing goats, camels, cattle and sheep, where the regional temperatures vary from a minimum of −19 °C (−2 °F) in winter to maximum of 14 °C (57 °F) in summer. It was a darker, more sinister night of quizzing at Whiskey Bar this Tuesday night, as the first trivia extravaganza of 2012 welcomed in Kate Beckinsale - or at least the two-dimensional version of her.

Yes, queeps were in for a real treat as Quizmaster had some Underworld: Awakening merchandise to dish out courtesy of our "friends" at Sony Pictures.

And first up it was best team name recipients After the "caucus" Wolf Blitzer was covered in Santorum, that got to throw up the posters for their pic...

Obviously a dream for any fourteen year old adolescent to hang on their bedroom wall!

Elsewhere, Lebron James' Fiance now has one more ring than him took top honors on the night, and thus had the right to VETO a picture with those freaky posters...

But they didn't stop Irish Your Panties we're off!! PS Can you please say "Harry Potter" again?! getting very excited for the new movie...

Especially when they were the only team to get the (three) t-shirts up for grabs...

Steven Paul Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American businessman and inventor widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution. He was co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs was co-founder and previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney.

In 1986, Jobs bought The Graphics Group (later renamed Pixar) from Lucasfilm's computer graphics division for the price of $10 million, $5 million of which was given to the company as capital.

The new company, which was originally based at Lucasfilm's Kerner Studios in San Rafael, California, but has since relocated to Emeryville, was initially intended to be a high-end graphics hardware developer. After years of unprofitability selling the Pixar Image Computer, it contracted with Disney to produce a number of computer-animated feature films that Disney would co-finance and distribute.

On January 24, 2006, Jobs and Iger announced that Disney had agreed to purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. When the deal closed, Jobs became The Walt Disney Company's largest single shareholder with approximately seven percent of the company's stock.

It was a festively themed night of quizzin' at Whiskey Bar this Tuesday, as stand-in Quizmaster Tommy S. welcomed a record 64 queeps to get invovled during trivia night!

In first place with 45 Points was team Meatwood Mac, who outsmarted the other 9 teams to take home the top prize...

Nice job!

In second place with 43 points was I've been to Australia once, does that make me Australian?...

It was a close quiz with multiple people tied for third place with 42 points! This just goes to show you how close and competitve trivia can be !!!

And finally the night's people's prize for best team name went to What is helen kellers favorite color, who (ironically) the Quizmaster did not get a picture of!?!

It's Billy the Kid!

William H. Bonney (born William Henry McCarty, Jr. est. November 23, 1859 – c. July 14, 1881, better known as Billy the Kid but also known as Henry Antrim, was a 19th-century American gunman who participated in the Lincoln County War and became a frontier outlaw in the West. According to legend, he killed 21 men, but he is generally accepted to have killed between four and nine.

McCarty (or Bonney, the name he used at the height of his notoriety) was 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm) to 5 feet 9 inches (175 cm) tall with blue eyes, a smooth complexion, and prominent front teeth. He was said to be friendly and personable at times, and many recalled that he was as "lithe as a cat". Contemporaries described him as a "neat" dresser who favored an "unadorned Mexican sombrero". These qualities, along with his cunning and celebrated skill with firearms, contributed to his paradoxical image, as both a notorious outlaw and beloved folk hero.

Relatively unknown during most of his lifetime, Billy was catapulted into legend in 1881 when New Mexico's governor, Lew Wallace, placed a price on his head. In addition, the Las Vegas Gazette (Las Vegas, New Mexico) and the New York Sun carried stories about his exploits. Many other newspapers followed suit. After his death, several biographies were written that portrayed the Kid in varying lights.

Merry Quizmas and a Thug Life New Year!

It was a full house at Whiskey Bar this Tuesday night for pub trivia, as Quizmaster founder Ryan stepped in for the oh-so-important---actually-I-have-better-stuff-to-do Kevin Brennan, the bar's regular host.

And it was a bit of a Christmas thriller in the end, with a three-way (giggity) tie for second place. Ultimately though it was Lindsay Cockingham (sounds interesting, please tell us more) separated from the pack with their tally of 47 jingle bells...

Christmas came early for them this year.

Yeeeaaaah!

Second place, as we mentioned, ended in a tie, with three teams duking it out for the runners-up tab. Since when is having Herpes a good thing were asking rhetorical questions and stole the $20 tab following the tie-break dual...

Although it's a good thing that Herpes only comes but once a year.

You know it makes sense.

Elsewhere Some of us can't handle out alcohol - it's the gift that keeps on giving were bottom of the pack, but evidently kinda drunk. Priorities people. Priorities.

And Aint no party like a Pyongyang party, cause Pyongyang party parties are mandatory were in the running for team name honors, but by that point people were too drunk to comprehend their rather (too) clever team name.

We also hear those Pyongyang parties are never ending.

And speaking of best team name, it was team I kno those abs that received that accolade - not so much so for their creative name-prowess, but more so for effort...

They were new to the Tuesday shenanigans at Whiskey Bar, and were walking around the bar at one point demanding tape and a stapler so they could complete their final product...

he was the first person to introduce
the song "Santa Claus is Coming to
Town" to the general public.

Eddie Cantor (January 31, 1892 – October 10, 1964) was an American "illustrated song" performer, comedian, dancer, singer,actor and songwriter. Familiar to Broadway, radio, movie and early television audiences, this "Apostle of Pep" was regarded almost as a family member by millions because his top-rated radio shows revealed intimate stories and amusing anecdotes about his wife Ida and five daughters.

His eye-rolling song-and-dance routines eventually led to his nickname, "Banjo Eyes". In 1933, the artist Frederick J. Garner caricatured Cantor with large round eyes resembling the drum-like pot of a banjo. Cantor's eyes became his trademark, often exaggerated in illustrations, and leading to his appearance on Broadway in the musical Banjo Eyes (1941).

His charity and humanitarian work was extensive, and he is credited with coining the phrase and helping to develop The March of Dimes.

Indicative of his effect on the mass audience, he agreed in November 1934 to introduce a new song by the songwriters J. Fred Cootsand Haven Gillespie that other well-known artists had rejected as being "silly" and "childish." The song, "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", immediately had orders for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day. It sold 400,000 copies by Christmas of that year.

Yeah, that's right. Quizmaster's got tha hook-up with Columbia pictures. Yes, THE Columbia pictures! BOO YAH!

The other newbies The Dicks (telling it how it is) finished on 34 points just behind the one man Couches Pull Out...

Second spot went to a tie breaker with Floppy Man Boobs just missing out to The Teletubby Should've Watched The Tape, with the latter stealing the prize...

Their name was a reference to one of the night's "what wrong with the movie still" questions...

We're not sure which is scarier! Fuckin' Tinky Winky!

Winning on the evening with 54 points was Seasons Worth of Steriods = $4,500 Testicle Implants = $16,000 League MVP = priceless...

The former boss of the Gambino Crime Family

John Joseph Gotti, Jr (October 27, 1940 – June 10, 2002) was an American mobster who became the Boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. Gotti grew up in poverty. He and his brothers turned to a life of crime at an early age. Operating out of the Ozone Park neighborhood of Queens, Gotti quickly rose in prominence, becoming one of the crime family's biggest earners and a protege of Gambino family underboss Aniello Dellacroce.

After the FBI indicted members of Gotti's crew for selling narcotics, Gotti took advantage of growing dissent over the leadership of the crime family. Fearing that his men and himself would be killed by Gambino crime family Boss Paul Castellano for selling drugs, Gotti organized the murder of Castellano in December 1985 and took over the family shortly thereafter.

This left Gotti as the boss of the most powerful crime family in America, which made hundreds of millions of dollars a year from construction, hijacking, loan sharking, gambling, extortion and other criminal activities. Gotti was the most powerful crime boss during his era and became widely known for his outspoken personality and flamboyant style, which eventually helped lead to his downfall. While his peers would go out of their way to shun attention, especially from the media, Gotti was known as the "The Dapper Don" for his expensive clothes and personality in front of news cameras. He was later given the nickname "The Teflon Don" because several attempts to convict him of crimes in the 1980s resulted in either a hung jury or an acquittal (i.e. the charges wouldn't "stick").

The fight for top spot climaxedwith a three-way climax ;-) between Herman Cain has 9-9-9 Problems, Barbara Is A Hoe and Useless Knowledge Always Trumps Good Team Names.

The sudden death question asked: What would later become Christie’s fine arts auction house, in which year did James Christie hold his first sale in London?

The answer was 1766, and in the end team Herman Cain did enough for second place...

The World War II air campaign was engaged by
the German Air Force - the Luftwaffe

The Battle of Britain (German: Luftschlacht um England or Luftschlacht um Großbritannien, literally "Air battle for England" or "Air battle for Great Britain") is the name given to the World War II air campaign waged by the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) against the United Kingdom during the summer and autumn of 1940. The objective of the campaign was to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force (RAF), especially Fighter Command. The name derives from a famous speech delivered by Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the House of Commons: "...the Battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin."

The Battle of Britain was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air forces, and was also the largest and most sustained aerial bombing campaign to that date. From July 1940 coastal shipping convoys and shipping centres, such as Portsmouth, were the main targets; one month later the Luftwaffe shifted its attacks to RAF airfields and infrastructure. As the battle progressed the Luftwaffe also targeted aircraft factories and ground infrastructure. Eventually the Luftwaffe resorted to attacking areas of political significance and using terror bombing tactics.

The failure of Germany to achieve its objectives of destroying Britain's air defences, or forcing Britain to negotiate an armistice or an outright surrender, is considered its first major defeat and one of the crucial turning points in the war. South America's southernmost point
is at the southern tip of Chile

Cape Horn (named after the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands) is the southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago of southern Chile, and is located on the small Hornos Island. Although not the most southerly point of South America, (which are the Diego Ramírez Islands) Cape Horn marks the northern boundary of the Drake Passage; for many years it was a major milestone on the clipper route, by which sailing ships carried trade around the world. However, the waters around the Cape are particularly hazardous, owing to strong winds, large waves, strong currents and icebergs; these dangers have made it notorious as a sailors' graveyard.

The need for ships to round the Cape Horn was greatly reduced by the opening of the Panama Canal in 1914. However, sailing around the Horn is widely regarded as one of the major challenges in yachting. Thus, a few recreational sailors continue to sail this route, sometimes as part of a circumnavigation of the globe, and almost all of these choosing routes through the channels to the north of the actual Cape (though many take a detour through the islands and anchor to wait for fair weather to actually visit Horn Island or even sail around it to replicate a rounding of this historic point). Several prominent ocean yacht races, notably the Volvo Ocean Race, the VELUX 5 Oceans and the Vendée Globe, sail around the world via the Horn, and speed records for round-the-world sailing are recognized for following this route.

It was an energetic and lively night of quizzin' at Whiskey Bar this Tuesday, as stand-in Quizmistress Naomi bid farewell to the Whiskey faithful, as regular Quizmaster Kevin B. returns next week. At least that's what he told Quizmaster HQ. Whether he actually shows up, who knows!

And we have a funny feeling that many of the gents at Whiskey Bar might miss Naomi ;)

And so on Naomi's final night it was the regular gang of Justin Bieber's New Song... Baby, Baby, Baby. Ohhh, it's not my baby... that stole home plate, and the top prize...

And yes, there was extra swag up for grabs on the night too! As well as the bar's regular prizes for 1st, 2nd and best name, Quizmaster's friends at Columbia Pictures (yeah, fuckin' recognize - we know people) donated some advanced screening passes to Adam Sandler's new movie Jack and Jill. As well as free advanced tickets to the movie, we were also giving away some t-shirts and beanie hats!

Robert LeRoy Parker (April 13, 1866 – c. November 6, 1908), better known as Butch Cassidy, was a notorious American train robber, bank robber, and leader of the Wild Bunch Gang in the American Old West. After pursuing a career in crime for several years in the United States, the pressures of being pursued, notably by the Pinkerton Detective Agency, forced him to flee with an accomplice, Harry Alonzo Longabaugh, known as the Sundance Kid, and Longabaugh's girlfriend, Etta Place, first to Argentina and then to Bolivia, where he and Longabaugh were allegedly killed in a shootout in November 1908.

Parker's first offense was minor. Around 1880, he journeyed to a clothier's shop in another town only to find the shop closed. He entered the shop and took a pair of jeans and some pie, leaving an IOU promising to pay on his next visit. However, the clothier pressed charges. Parker was acquitted at a jury trial.

He continued to work on ranches until 1884, when he moved to Telluride, Colorado, ostensibly to seek work but perhaps to deliver stolen horses to buyers. He led a cowboy's life in Wyoming and in Montana, before returning to Telluride in 1887. There he met Matthew Warner, the owner of a race horse. The men raced the horse at various events, dividing the winnings between them.

It was an ecstatic night of the usual hoop-la trivia shenanigans at Whiskey Bar this week, as Quizmistress Naomi Lee stepped in to host in the 0h-so-long absence of Quizmaster Kevin B.

The show got underway, pizza got eaten, and teams got rowdy!

In the end though, it was the ever-inappropriate team of You are way hotter than Kevin, can I buy you a drink with the $10 you are about to give us? who won on the night, after victory in the sudden death round...

She's a married woman, but hey, shit happens.

That meant second place was reserved for regulars Dennis: the unknown Jonas Brother...

And WOW, Whiskey Bar looks a state! Cobwebs everywhere!

Humphrey DeForest Bogart (December 25, 1899 – January 14, 1957) was an American actor. He is widely regarded as a cultural icon. The American Film Institute ranked Bogart as the greatest male star in the history of American cinema.

After trying various jobs, Bogart began acting in 1921 and became a regular in Broadway productions in the 1920s and 1930s. When the stock market crash of 1929 reduced the demand for plays, Bogart turned to film. His first great success was as Duke Mantee in The Petrified Forest (1936), and this led to a period of typecasting as a gangster with films such as Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) and B-movies like The Return of Doctor X (1939).

His breakthrough as a leading man came in 1941, with High Sierra and The Maltese Falcon. The next year, his performance in Casablanca raised him to the peak of his profession and, at the same time, cemented his trademark film persona, that of the hard-boiled cynic who ultimately shows his noble side. Other successes followed, including To Have and Have Not (1944), The Big Sleep (1946), Dark Passage (1947) and Key Largo (1948), with his wife Lauren Bacall; The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), In a Lonely Place (1950), The African Queen (1951), for which he won his only Academy Award; Sabrina (1954) and The Caine Mutiny (1954). George Washington Carver (January 1864 – January 5, 1943), was an American scientist, botanist, educator, and inventor. The exact day and year of his birth are unknown; he is believed to have been born into slavery in Missouri in January of 1864.

Carver's reputation is based on his research into and promotion of alternative crops to cotton, such as peanuts, soybeans and sweet potatoes, which also aided nutrition for farm families. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops both as a source of their own food and as a source of other products to improve their quality of life. The most popular of his 44 practical bulletins for farmers contained 105 food recipes using peanuts. He also developed and promoted about 100 products made from peanuts that were useful for the house and farm, including cosmetics, dyes, paints, plastics, gasoline, and nitroglycerin. He received numerous honors for his work, including the Spingarn Medal of the NAACP.

During the Reconstruction-era South, monoculture of cotton depleted the soil in many areas. In the early 20th century, the boll weevil destroyed much of the cotton crop, and planters and farm workers suffered. Carver's work on peanuts was intended to provide an alternative crop.

Also, Carver was often credited with the invention of peanut butter. While he may have made peanut butter, the preparation arose in other cultures independently.

Founded following the conclusion of WWI

The League of Nations (LON) was an intergovernmental organization founded as a result of the Paris Peace Conference that ended the First World War. It was the first permanent international organization whose principal mission was to maintain world peace. Its primary goals, as stated in its Covenant, included preventing war through collective security and disarmament, and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration. Other issues in this and related treaties included labour conditions, just treatment of native inhabitants, human and drug trafficking, arms trade, global health, prisoners of war, and protection of minorities in Europe. At its greatest extent from 28 September 1934 to 23 February 1935, it had 58 members.

The diplomatic philosophy behind the League represented a fundamental shift from the preceding hundred years. The League lacked its own armed force and depended on the Great Powers to enforce its resolutions, keep to its economic sanctions, or provide an army when needed. However, the Great Powers were often reluctant to do so. Sanctions could hurt League members, so they were reluctant to comply with them. When, during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, the League accused Italian soldiers of targeting Red Cross medical tents, Benito Mussolini responded that "the League is very well when sparrows shout, but no good at all when eagles fall out."

The Patterson-Gimlin film (also referred to as simply the Patterson film) is a famous short motion picture of an unidentified subject the film makers purported to be a "Bigfoot", that was supposedly filmed on October 20, 1967 by Roger Patterson (February 14, 1926 – January 15, 1972) and Robert Gimlin (October 18, 1931) in the Six Rivers National Forest outside of Crescent City, California. The film has been subjected to many attempts both to debunk and authenticate it. Most scientists have judged the film a hoax with a man in an ape suit, but other theorists contend the film depicts a cryptid, a creature unknown to science.

Both Patterson and Gimlin have consistently dismissed allegations that they had hoaxed the footage by filming a man wearing an ape suit. Patterson died of cancer in 1972. Patterson's friend and business associate, Gimlin, has always denied being involved in any part of a possible hoax with Patterson and claims that he and his partner had encountered a real Bigfoot. Gimlin avoided publicly discussing the subject from at least the early 1970s until about the year 2000 when he began giving interviews and making appearances at Bigfoot conferences.

It was quite a crowd for trivia on Tuesday night as 10 teams came out to test their skills in this week's quiz at Whiskey Bar. And what skills they had as 7 out of the 10 teams scored 42 points or higher!

On the top of the table, and with a great little drawing in case we didn't get the point, it was Periodic Table Dancers....

These two ladies schooled the rest of the bar with their dominating 49 point performance and take home the top prize, a $40 Whiskey Bar gift card. Impressive showing ladies!...

In second place on the night it was the group that isn't all that happy with Texas' Governor Rick Perry (or is it spelled Parry with an A?). Rick Perry Gave Me HPV would be able to drown their sorrows at Whiskey Bar with their $20 gift card...

The Galápagos Islands (official name: Archipiélago de Colón; other Spanish names: Islas de Colón or Islas Galápagos) are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, 972 km (525 nmi) west of continental Ecuador, of which they are a part.

The Galápagos Islands and its surrounding waters form an Ecuadorian province, a national park, and a biological marine reserve. The principal language on the islands is Spanish. The islands have a population of around 23,000.

The islands are geologically young and famed for their vast number of endemic species, which were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection.

The first crude navigation chart of the islands was done by the buccaneer Ambrose Cowley in 1684. He named the individual islands after some of his fellow pirates or after the English noblemen who helped the privateer's cause. More recently, the Ecuadorian government gave most of the islands Spanish names. While the Spanish names are official, many users (especially ecological researchers continue to use the older English names, particularly as those were the names used when Charles Darwin visited.

It was a quiet night this Tuesday evening as only a few teams came out to compete for $60 worth of Whiskey Bar gift cards. So with only a few teams, QM Kevin was getting to know the quizzers a bit better. QM Kevin learned that one of the teams had two teachers on it.... Interesting.

But back to the trivia. On the top of the night, it was "Clearly the winners" - Kevin, as they used a quote from their QM as their name...

They would take home the $40 first place prize with a dominating 48 out of 50 points.

The team in second place had one of the longer names we've had in a while: She broke up with me b/c she said I never gave her anything. Let's see what she has to say after her next physical...

Unfortunately for them, the $20 gift card is only good at Whiskey Bar and may not be used at sporting stores to buy protection for their "little guys".

Dorando Pietri, often wrongly spelt Petri (October 16, 1885, Correggio, Province of Reggio Emilia - February 7, 1942, Sanremo) was an Italian athlete famous for his dramatic finish and eventual disqualification in the marathon at the 1908 Summer Olympics held in London.

Dorando Pietri trained hard for the 1908 Olympics in London. In a race in Carpi he ran 40 km (25 mi) in 2 hours and 38 minutes, an extraordinary result for the times. The marathon, which was to take place on July 24, 1908, started with 56 competitors, including Pietri and fellow Italian Umberto Blasi. It began at 2:33pm. The weather was particularly hot by British summer standards. The London course measured 26.2 miles (42.2 km); the distance would later become the official marathon length from 1921.

Pietri began his race at a rather slow pace, but in the second half of the course began a powerful surge moving him into second position by the 32 km (20 mi) mark, 4 minutes behind South African Charles Hefferon. When he knew that Hefferon was in crisis, Pietri further increased his pace, overtaking him at the 39 km (24 mi) mark.

The effort took its toll and with only two kilometres to go, Pietri began to feel the effects of extreme fatigue and dehydration. When he entered the stadium, he took the wrong path and when umpires redirected him, he fell down for the first time. He got up with their help, in front of 75,000 spectators.

He fell four more times, and each time the umpires helped him up. In the end, though totally exhausted, he managed to finish the race in first place, practically being dragged over the finish line by officials (as seen in photographs of the event). Of his total time of 2h 54min 46s, ten minutes were needed for that last 350 metres. Second was American Johnny Hayes. The American team immediately lodged a complaint against the help Pietri received from the umpires. The complaint was accepted and Pietri was disqualified and removed from the final standings of the race.

On another Tuesday night, 8 teams would challenge themselves at Whiskey Bar, and eat a free slice of pizza along the way during trivia night. The pizza, although a bit later than usual, would not disappoint, and the teams on the night wouldn't either, as six out of eight teams on the night scored 40 points or better; proving that the quizzers brought their A games!

In the top spot on the night with a dominating 47 out of 50 points, it was Boomnation! who continued their win streak!...

We know there's a team set on taking their crown, but so far, they haven't quite shown they can keep up..

In second place on the night, not that they were bitter, it was Go Fuck Yourself in the Pujols, Alberta! with their score of 45 points...

One team in particular got the attention of QM Kevin. Although they were in last place, an honorable mention for a pretty good team name went to At the special-ed prom, every dance is a slow dance....

And we at Quizmaster have some free dancing advice for those of you who find yourself at one of those special-ed proms...

The British Museum is a museum of human history and culture in London. Its collections, which number more than seven million objects, are amongst the largest and most comprehensive in the world and originate from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.

The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. There was a new rivalry started at Whiskey Bar last night as Dynasty my ass came in to challenge Dynasty... Boom. Unfortunately for them, Dynasty my ass would take 4th place on the night, with a respectable 51 out of 60 points. Not bad for your first night a Whiskey Bar guys!

On the top of the table it was Dynasty... Boom with their eight player team...

It must work for them as they seem to be at the top of the table most weeks.. (meaning bring your friends folks!)

In second place on the night, it was Wrangler Dangler with 53 points....

Congrats on the $20 win guys!

Brigham Young (June 1, 1801 – August 29, 1877) was an American leader in the Latter Day Saint movement and a settler of the Western United States. He was the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1847 until his death in 1877. He was also the founder of Salt Lake City and the first governor of Utah Territory, United States. Brigham Young University was named in his honor.

Young had a variety of nicknames, among the most popular being "American Moses," (alternatively the "Modern Moses" or the "Mormon Moses") because, like the biblical figure, Young led his followers, the Mormon pioneers, in an exodus through a desert, to what they saw as a promised land. Young was dubbed by his followers the "Lion of the Lord" for his bold personality, and was also commonly called "Brother Brigham" by Latter-day Saints. Young was a polygamist and was involved in controversies regarding black people and the Priesthood, the Utah War, and the Mountain Meadows massacre.

Shortly after the arrival of Young's pioneers, the new Mormon colonies were incorporated into the United States through Mexican Cession, Young petitioned the U.S. Congress to create the State of Deseret. The Compromise of 1850 instead carved out Utah Territory, and Young was installed as governor. As governor and church president, Young directed both religious and economic matters. He encouraged independence and self-sufficiency. Many cities and towns in Utah, and some in neighboring states, were founded under Young's direction.

The Ganges Delta (also known as the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta, the Sunderbans Delta, or the Bengalla Delta) is a river delta in the South Asia region of Bengal, consisting of Bangladesh and the state of West Bengal, India. It is the world's largest delta, and empties into the Bay of Bengal.

It is also one of the most fertile regions in the world, thus earning the nickname The Green Delta. The delta stretches from the Hooghly River on the west to the Meghna River on the east. It is approximately 350 km (220 mi) across at the Bay of Bengal. Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) and Haldia in India and Mongla and Chittagong in Bangladesh are the principal seaports on the delta.

A number of large rivers flow through the Ganges Delta, including the Padma (lower Ganges), Jamuna (Lower Brahmaputra, and Meghna.

Between 125 and 143 million people live on the delta, despite risks from floods caused by monsoons, heavy runoff from the melting snows of the Himalayas, and tropical cyclones. A large part of the nation of Bangladesh lies in the Ganges Delta, and many of the country's people depend on the delta for survival.

It is believed that upwards of 300 million people are supported by the Ganges Delta, and approximately 400 million people live in the Ganges River Basin, making it the most populous river basin in the world. Most of the Ganges Delta has a population density of more than 200 people per km² (520 people per square mile), making it one of the most densely populated regions on earth.

It wasn't just the earth that was shaky this Tuesday, but the quizzers at Whiskey Bar as well.

A tough quiz kept this week's quiz scores a bit lower with only one team able to break the 40 point barrier. Congrats to Was that an earthquake.. or are you just happy to see me? who took top honors on the night with their 42 point win...

In second place on the night taking home $20 for their efforts, it was Yay, Ecstasy! with 39 points....

Apparently it took them a while to figure out a name, but with Darude's Sandstorm playing during the music clip bonus round, it was a no-brainer.

Frank William Abagnale, Jr. (born April 27, 1948) is an American security consultant known for his history as a former confidence trickster, check forger, impostor, and escape artist. He became notorious in the 1960s for passing $2.5 million worth of meticulously forged checks across 26 countries over the course of five years, beginning when he was 16 years old.

In the process, he claimed to have assumed no fewer than eight separate identities, impersonating an airline pilot, a doctor, a Bureau of Prisons agent, and a lawyer. He escaped from police custody twice (once from a taxiing airliner and once from a U.S. federal penitentiary), before he was 21 years old.

He served less than five years in prison before starting to work for the federal government. He is a consultant and lecturer at the academy and field offices for the FBI. He also runs Abagnale & Associates, a financial fraud consultancy company.

Abagnale's life story provided the inspiration for the feature film Catch Me If You Can, as well as the Broadway musical, which opened in April 2011, and ghostwritten autobiography of the same name.

It was a fantastic evening to get some free pizza and drinks at Whiskey Bar on Tuesday night. Stepping in for the first time at Whiskey Bar was QM Kevin H.

At the top of the table it was the Elvis remembrance team known as Wearing my blue suede shoes, at the heartbreak hotel, looking for a deep friend peanut butter banana sandwich - is that to much to ask? with their score of 45 points....

Congrats on your $40 win!

Second place would be a little more contested as Whistler's Mom and I heard that girl gave Dan Guyana! were tied at 38 points. Sudden death would separate the two teams with the question:

Which year did Motor Vehicle registrations in the United States surpass the one million mark?

Whistler's Mom answered 1967, but would fall short to I heard that girl gave Dan Guyana! with their answer of 1910 which was closest to the correct answer of 1913....

RMS Titanic was a passenger liner that struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, and sank on 15 April 1912, resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.

The largest passenger steamship in the world, the Olympic-class RMS Titanic was owned by the White Star Line and constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland.

Construction of RMS Titanic, funded by the American J.P. Morgan and his International Mercantile Marine Co., began on 31 March 1909. Titanic's hull was launched at 12:13 on 31 May 1911, and her outfitting was completed by 31 March the following year.

After setting sail for New York City on 10 April 1912 with 2,223 people on board, she hit the iceberg four days into the crossing, at 11:40 pm on 14 April 1912, and sank at 2:20 am the following morning. The high casualty rate resulting from the sinking was due in part to the fact that, although complying with the regulations of the time, the ship carried lifeboats for only 1,178 people. A disproportionate number of men died due to the "women and children first" protocol that was enforced by the ship's crew.

Titanic was designed by experienced engineers, using some of the most advanced technologies and extensive safety features of the time. The high loss of life, the media frenzy over Titanic's famous victims, the legends about the sinking, the resulting changes in maritime law, and the discovery of the wreck have all contributed to the enduring interest in Titanic.

Aargh! Me quiz hearties be invited to peer into the depths of Lake Michigan aboard the 1st annual Quizmaster Pirate Cruise. Mateys be signin' up now, with only room for 150 pirates....

Tell Kevin to Stop Rioting and Get Back to Trivia some how knew why Ian's been stepping in for Kevin at the Whiskey Bar quiz, but that knowledge didn't count for quiz points and they came up a little short with 36 points this past Tuesday night.

Friends of the Quiz, The Shit Show, jumped up to third places this week on 38 but were edged out of second by I think they FINALLY hired a bartender that has prettier hair than Dan who put up a strong 41, it must be due to the blood rushing to their brains...

But the run away winners were We appreciate the old college try on the accent who threw up a convincing 46 and won the top prize for the second week in a row...

McDonald's Store #433 Sign
Located in Arkansas

The McDonald's Sign, also known as McDonald's Store #433 Sign, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, United States, is the only known surviving example of a single-arch McDonald's sign in Arkansas. The sign was erected in 1962 and remained at its original location until 2007. In 2007 McDonald's Store #433 moved and the sign was renovated and moved to the new location. The McDonald's sign was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Before McDonald's Store #433 was built on South Main Street in Pine Bluff, the neighborhood was mostly residential. The area began to change as the mid-20th century approached and commercial enterprises began to appear in the area. The McDonald's was constructed at 1300 South Main Street in 1962 and followed the standard corporate design for the era: a red, white and yellow motif with arches projecting through the roof.

McDonald's Store #433 opened on July 3, 1962, and remained in operation until it was announced in August 2007 that the store would close by the end of the year. A new location was constructed in the 2800 block of South Olive Street, about two miles from the original location. Initially, it was unknown what the sign's fate would be; by September, it was announced that the sign would move to the new location.

As the date of closure approached in September the sign was dismantled and transported to Skylite Sign & Neon in Mabelvale, Arkansas, for renovation work which lasted through October 2007.

It was a solid four-team competition at whiskey bar this Tuesday for quiz night, as new Quizmaster Ian stepped in for one week to cover for missing QM Kevin B.

New comers We Suck at this Game put up a valiant effort with 29 and produced a pretty accurate self-assessment.

It was very tight at the top with 1st and 3rd separated by only 3 points. Last weeks winners Stay Classy Milwaukee changed up the name and stayed in medal contention with 38, but fell just short of the money...

Amy Winehouse: 10 days Sober! were edged out from the top spot...

Just one point separated them from You could have faked the British Accent took the prize...

Pretty sure the accent would help with the ladies, good suggestion.

Richard I (8 September 1157 – 6 April 1199) was King of England from 6 July 1189 until his death. He also ruled as Duke of Normandy, Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Gascony, Lord of Cyprus, Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, Count of Nantes, and Overlord of Brittany at various times during the same period. He was known as Cœur de Lion, or Richard the Lionheart, even before his accession, because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. The Saracens called him Melek-Ric or Malek al-Inkitar - King of England.

By the age of sixteen Richard was commanding his own army, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father, King Henry II. Gene Tunney defeated the crowd favorite
Jack Dempsey in the first ever 10 count match

The Battle Of The Long Count was the boxing rematch between world Heavyweight champion Gene Tunney and former champion Jack Dempsey, held on September 22, 1927, at Soldier Field in Chicago. Just 364 days before, on September 23, 1926, Tunney had beaten Dempsey by a ten round unanimous decision to lift the world Heavyweight title, in Philadelphia.

The first fight between Tunney and Dempsey had been moved out of Chicago because Dempsey had learned that Al Capone was a big fan of his, and he did not want Capone to be involved in the fight. Capone reportedly bet $50,000 on Dempsey for the rematch, which fueled false rumors of a fix. Dempsey was favored by odds makers in both fights, largely because of public betting which heavily tilted towards Dempsey.

The rematch was held at Chicago's Soldier Field, and would draw a gate of $2,658,660 (approximately $22 million in today's dollars). It was simultaneously the first $1 million gate and the first $2 million gate in entertainment history.

The fight took place under new rules regarding knockdowns: the fallen fighter would have 10 seconds to rise to his feet under his own power, after his opponent moved to a neutral corner (i.e., one with no trainers). The new rule, which was not yet universal, was asked to be put into use during the fight by the Dempsey camp, who had requested it during negotiations. Dempsey, in the final days of training prior to the rematch, apparently ignored the setting of these new rules. Also, the fight was staged inside a 20-foot ring, which favored the boxer with superior footwork, in this case Tunney. Dempsey liked to crowd his opponents, and normally fought in a 16-foot ring that offered less space to maneuver.

"Rock Around the Clock" is a 12-bar-blues-based song written by Max C. Freedman and James E. Myers (the latter under the pseudonym "Jimmy De Knight") in 1952. The best-known and most successful rendition was recorded by Bill Haley and His Comets in 1954.

Eric Moussambani (born May 31, 1978) is a swimmer from Equatorial Guinea.

Eric Moussambani, nicknamed "Eric The Eel" by the media after the name first appeared in an article by Craig Lord in The Times newspaper in London, won brief international fame at the 2000 Summer Olympics when he swam his heat of the 100m freestyle in 1:52.72 and won, because the two other competitors were disqualified for taking a false start. So slow it was more than twice the time of his faster competitors, and outside even the 200m world record.

Moussambani gained entry to the Olympics without meeting the minimum qualification requirements via a wildcard draw designed to encourage developing countries without expensive training facilities to participate. While Pieter van den Hoogenband set a world record of 47.84 seconds to win the gold medal, Moussambani splashed his way to the finish to the cheers of the crowd in slightly more than twice that time. "The last 15 meters were very difficult," Moussambani said.

Before coming to the Olympics, Moussambani had never seen a 50m pool. He took up swimming only 8 months before the Olympics and had practiced in a mere 20m pool.

Moussambani was denied entry into the 2004 Olympic Games due to a visa bungle, despite the vast improvement in his swimming over the previous four years, with his personal best down to under 57 seconds.

The Battle of Bladensburg took place during the War of 1812. The defeat of the American forces there allowed the British to capture and burn the public buildings of Washington, D.C. It has been called "the greatest disgrace ever dealt to American arms."

For the first two years of the War of 1812, the British had been preoccupied with the war against Napoleon Bonaparte on the continent of Europe. Although the Royal Navy controlled Chesapeake Bay from early 1813 onwards, lack of troops restricted them to mounting comparatively small-scale raids, the largest of which was the Battle of Craney Island, which involved 2,000 troops from the British Army and Royal Marines.

By April 1814, Napoleon had been defeated and was exiled to the island of Elba. Large numbers of British troops were free to be sent to North America. Lieutenant General Sir George Prevost, the Governor General of Canada and commander in chief in North America, planned for a dual invasion of the United States. He personally led one invasion into the state of New York from Canada, headed for Lake Champlain. D. B. Cooper is the name popularly used to refer to an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in the airspace between Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington, USA on November 24, 1971. He extorted $200,000 in ransom and parachuted to an uncertain fate. Despite an extensive manhunt and an exhaustive (and ongoing) FBI investigation, the perpetrator has never been located or positively identified. To date, the case remains the only unsolved airline hijacking in American aviation history.

The suspect purchased his airline ticket under the alias Dan Cooper, but due to a news media miscommunication, he became known in popular lore as "D. B. Cooper." Hundreds of leads have been pursued in the ensuing years, but no conclusive evidence has ever surfaced regarding Cooper's true identity or whereabouts, and the bulk of the ransom money has never been recovered. Scoleciphobia is the fear of worms. The sight of a worm, or anything that looks like a worm, may cause someone with this phobia to have extreme anxiety or even panic attacks.

Individuals with this disorder typically recognize that their fear is excessive and/or unreasonable. However, in spite of this, one may lead a restricted lifestyle and find the fear debilitating. Those with Specific Phobias have been known to go to great lengths to avoid certain activities due to the possibility of coming into contact with the feared stimuli. Whiskey tasting (which apparently must be done in silence?!) and QM Kev B's poorly-ness led to a quieter than usual Quiz, but the teams certainly bought the noise with some cracking team names this Tuesday night at Whiskey Bar.

We had one new team in the shape of the Brown Eyed Girls who finished in 6th place, behind team Fucking Legendary who finished with 37 points.....

We're assuming that name is talking about their one man quiz team and solo alcoholic from last week?

The Shit Show crew finished in 4th, just behind He Feeds Me, None Of His Questions Are About My Feelings & Only Asks For $1, Man, If Kevin Had Tits He'd Be The Perfect GF who racked up 41 points, but were dead on with their team name.

It was snug at the top as Is Lorne's Protrusion Too Small To Be A Panhandle? placed second with 42 points...

And the winners on the evening were the Strokers Wankers and Wieners who got 44 points...

Lina Medina (born September 27, 1933, in Ticrapo, Huancavelica Region, Peru) is the youngest confirmed mother in medical history, giving birth at the age of five years, seven months and 17 days. She now lives in Lima, Peru.

Medina was brought to a hospital by her parents at the age of five years due to increasing abdominal size. She was originally thought to have had a tumor, but her doctors determined she was in her seventh month of pregnancy.

A month and a half after the original diagnosis, on May 14, 1939, Medina gave birth to a boy by a caesarean section necessitated by her small pelvis. The surgery was performed by Dr. Lozada and Dr. Busalleu, with Dr. Colareta providing anaesthesia. Her case was reported in detail by Dr. Edmundo Escomel in the medical journal La Presse Médicale, including the additional details that her menarche had occurred at eight months of age (or 2½ according to a different article) and that she had prominent breast development by the age of four. By age five, her figure displayed pelvic widening and advanced bone maturation. When doctors performed the caesarean to deliver her baby, they found she already had fully mature sexual organs from precocious puberty.

Medina never revealed the father of the child nor the circumstances of her impregnation. Dr. Escomel suggested she might not actually know herself by writing that Medina "couldn't give precise responses". Medina's father was arrested on suspicion of rape and incest, but was later released due to lack of evidence. According to a 1955 article reviewing the case, "Some pointed out there were frequent festivities celebrated by Indians in Andean villages like the one where Lina was born. These often ended up in orgies in which rape was not uncommon. But if this theory were accepted, there still was no explanation of how a five-year-old girl could conceive a child. There hasn't been to this day."

An interesting shaped island on the picture sheet was the talk of the trivia this Tuesday night at Whiskey Bar as 6 teams battled it out for the usual prizes.

Team Awesome (yes, they're back and they have a brainy addition!) started slow but got a massive boost midway through the quiz???

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time rocked it as a one man team...

That'll teach those 'friends' who pulled a no-show!

Team Whatever (below) couldn't replicate their heroics from last week as they tied third with Team America F*@K YEAH! on 34 points....

Claiming second spot with a total of 40 points was We Saw Winter's Boner on Penis Island....

Love the team name!

Winning the big money prize on the evening with 43 points was Bin Laden's Last Words:"Hello, Jimmy Johns?"...

We don't think the Bin Laden names will ever get old!

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Sammy Davis Jr,
it was originally centered on Humphrey Bogart

The Rat Pack was a group of actors originally centered on Humphrey Bogart. In the mid-1960s it was the name used by the press and the general public to refer to a later variation of the group, after Bogart's death, that called itself "the summit" or "the clan," featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop, who appeared together on stage and in films in the early-1960s, including the movie Ocean's 11. Sinatra, Martin and Davis were regarded as the group's lead members.

The name "Rat Pack" was first used to refer to a group of friends in New York. Several explanations have been offered for the famous name over the years. According to one version, the group's original "Den Mother," Lauren Bacall, after seeing her husband (Bogart) and his friends return from a night in Las Vegas, said words to the effect of "You look like a goddamn rat pack." "Rat Pack" may also be a shortened version of "Holmby Hills Rat Pack," a reference to the home of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall which served as a regular hangout.

Visiting members included Errol Flynn, Nat King Cole, Mickey Rooney and Cesar Romero.

According to Stephen Bogart, the original members of the Holmby Hills Rat Pack were Sinatra (pack master), Judy Garland (first vice-president), Bacall (den mother), Sid Luft (cage master), Bogart (rat in charge of public relations), Swifty Lazar (recording secretary and treasurer), Nathaniel Benchley (historian), David Niven, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, George Cukor, Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, and Jimmy Van Heusen.^[4]^[5] In his autobiography The Moon's a Balloon, Niven confirms that the Rat Pack originally included him but not Sammy Davis Jr. or Dean Martin.

Yet Another Birthday!

The Whiskey Bar quiz this Tuesday evening had yet another birthday party on the cards, but this time complete with candles and perhaps the tastiest fairy cakes QM Kev B has ever got his chops around (no comments, please!).

A new team joined the fun and provided the best team name on night, Threes Company But Fours An Orgy scored 36 points (referencing one of the night's TV Theme song questions)! Gotta give us another comedy name next week!

L-Dogg and Headless Teddy Grahams placed 6th and 5th respectively, with Dr Who Cares finishing in 4th with 44 points.

Birthday girl Tonya was part of team Flatliners, That Was Such A Great Movie who tied 3rd position...

They tied with One Many Army on 47 points.

Swapping their usual basement spot for second was Lowered Expectations...

The boys recruited a couple of brainy looking chicks and reaped the benefits!

The weekly winners were The Shit Show who crushed the competition with 53 points...

It must have been the Welshman!

Max Zorin
A Nazi super-child!

Max Zorin is a fictional character and the main antagonist in the James Bond film A View to a Kill. He was portrayed by Academy Award winner Christopher Walken. The role was initially offered to David Bowie, who turned it down, saying, "I didn't want to spend five months watching my stunt double fall off cliffs."

Zorin was born in Dresden around the end of the Second World War, after which Dresden became part of East Germany. He later moved to France and became a leading French businessman, operating on the microchip market. However, it is revealed later in the movie that he was the product of Nazi medical experimentation during World War II, in which pregnant women were injected with massive quantities of steroids in an attempt to create "super-children." Most of the pregnancies failed. The few surviving babies grew to become extraordinarily intelligent—but also psychopathic.

After the war, Dr. Hans Glaub (alias Dr. Carl Mortner), the German scientist who conducted the experiments, was spirited away by the Soviet Union, where he continued his experiments with steroids. It is strongly implied that the young Zorin was raised by Mortner, who was one of Zorin's closest allies in the movie, and explicitly stated that Zorin was trained by and long-affiliated with the KGB.

Zorin is extremely sadistic and displays a near-total lack of loyalty to his own men, as shown when he oversaw the execution of a Soviet spy who attempted to sabotage his oil well operations and when he personally massacred hundreds of his own mine workers to ensure the success of his own plans. Despite his long-standing and intimate relationship with his right hand woman May Day, he willingly sacrifices her for the sake of his plans, although this betrayal would backfire horribly on him later on.
